Sadly, our property is almost total clay ... a poor reflection on home developers in the Niagara ... one of Canada's prime farming areas. When they develop homes they strip off all the top soil and (I guess) sell it to landscape outfits. Then, when they sod their newly finished sites, they backfill with a minimum of top soil.
So over the years we plan to build up the property's flower beds by raising them a foot or so, all held in by these rock retaining walls .. and all part of the joy of gardening, (read in large part, "EXERCISE!").
We are also waiting for clearance from Ontario One Call, a consolidated service, (free), to advise where all underground service lines are on our property. These lines are just inches below the surface and breaking them could be very expensive to us!
